Trauma Release
Hypnosis can help individuals cope with past traumas that affect their ability to function and maintain healthy lives. Hypnotherapy may allow those suffering from trauma to identify triggers that cause or worsen symptoms, which allows these underlying traumas to be addressed, reframed and resolved.
Most people will experience a traumatic event at some point in their lives.
The brain’s natural response to a dangerous or life-threatening situation is known as the “fight, flight, freeze” response.
During a crisis, the brain is signaled to release stress hormones that cause the sympathetic nervous system to react appropriately. Once the danger has passed, the brain stops producing those stress hormones and returns to normal functioning.
For people suffering from Trauma and PTSD, however, the individual has not addressed the traumatic event, which disrupts the brain’s natural process and prevents the event from being resolved and cause reccurence of symptoms.
When a situation occurs that may mildly resemble the original trauma, the brain begins "pattern matching".
The brain will begin recalling details of the original event and "matches" what it is seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, or feeling to the current state, signaling that danger is near and protection is necessary. The brain will then signal body systems to respond to this new threat by engaging the “fight, flight, freeze” response.
Hypnotherapeutic techniques for PTSD/Trauma include:
Relaxation: Guiding the client through a complete body scan for tension release is optimal for achieving peace and relaxation. Mental and physical relaxation can be a natural antidote to many PTSD/Trauma symptoms.
Identifying triggers: Symptoms of PTSD/Trauma can be triggered by non-threatening events.
Aversion Therapy: In the trance state, a person can vividly imagine experiencing triggering event and safely practice more appropriate reactions. With repeated attempts, the severity of the adverse reactions decreases until the triggers are no longer perceived as threats.
